AeroItalia launches operations
Shortly after receiving its AOC at the end of last month, AeroItalia has launched its operations with its first and only aircraft, Boeing B737-800 9H-CRI (30567). The airline took delivery of the Boeing on 19 April.
During a press-conference, AeroItalia outlined its plans for the future. Initially, the airline will fly (ACMI) charter-flights but wants to offer scheduled flights as soon as the post-pandemic market recovery continues. The airline is starting out of Forli and is thinking of flying domestic destinations in the South of Italy first and later international destinations, including long-haul. Therefore AeroItalia wants to develop a hub at Rome-Fiumicino, going head-to-head with ITA Airways.
Fleet-wise the airline is expecting delivery of a second B737-800 in the coming months and plans to grow the fleet to six B737-700/-800s this year. Next year, the airline wants to add B787s for long-haul operations. By 2025, the fleet should be comprised of fifteen B737s and ten B787s.
AeroItalia is backed by German Efromovich, the owner of the Synergy Aerospace Group, which owns Avianca. Previously, he tried to invest and buy parts of Alitalia but this deal never happened.
