Air Canada reverses A220-cancellation

In its full 2021 financial results presentation, Air Canada mentions it expects a stronger return of demand and a need to accelerate its fleet renewal. As a result, the airline is backtracking on its November 2020-decision when it decided to cancel twelve of its 45 A220-300 order with Airbus.

In November last year, Air Canada already announced it would reduce the cancellation to ten aircraft but now it's backtracking completely. It's good to note, however, that Airbus never removed the twelve from its order book.

Half of the twelve will be delivered in 2024 and the remaining six in 2025. Currently, Air Canada has a fleet of 27 A220-300s which it uses to replace its A319s and some A320s.
