Air India announces another large Airbus-order
On 9 December 2024, both Airbus and Air India announced that the airline has placed a second and another large firm order. The order, which has already been booked under an "Undisclosed Customer" by Airbus earlier this year, is for 90 A320neo-family aircraft and ten A350s. The last aircraft type is most likely split evenly between the -900 and -1000 when looking at the Airbus order update for September this year.
With this latest order, Air India has now ordered 350 new Airbuses, consisting of 300 A320neo-family aircraft, 21 A350-900s, and 29 A350-1000s. Of these, six A350-900s have been so far delivered.
The new aircraft are part of Air India's renewal programme which was launched when Tata took over the airline and merged it with Vistara. Next to its Airbuses on order, the airline also has open orders with Boeing for 155 B737-8s, ten B787-9s, and ten B777-9s.
