Air Japan welcomes 1st B787 in own livery
On 26 January 2024, Air Japan welcomed its first Boeing B787 in its own livery. B787-8 JA803A (34485) flew back to Tokyo-Narita from Xiamen on this date. At Xiamen, the aircraft was reconfigured into an all-economy lay-out with 297 seats and recived a new paintjob.
Air Japan is a subsidiary of All Nippon Airways and dates back to 1990 when it was established as World Air Network. It was rebranded into Air Japan 2010. Until now, the airline was operating a fleet of 76 B787s in ANA-livery and under ANA-flight numbers. However, ANA has decided to also use the Air Japan-brand and Air Operator's Certificate as its long-haul low-cost brand, competing directly with Japan Airlines' ZIPAir.
Commercial flights are beginning in February and Air Japan will, initially, launch with flights from Tokyo-Narita to Bangkok and Seoul-Incheon. In April 2024, the airline will also launch flights to Singapore.
