Air Moldova suspends operations, files for restructuring
As of 2 May 2023, Air Moldova suspended all operations and filed for bankruptcy protection in order to restructure the airline under supervision of bankruptcy court. According to the airline, investors are ready to invest money in the airline once the judge approves the restructuring.
Air Moldova has been struggling financially since the outbreak of the war between Ukraine and Russia, which were the two most important markets the airline served. The proximity to Ukraine as well as political unstability in the country made that the lessor of the company's Airbus A319 and A320 demanded that both aircraft were moved out of the country, hindering operations. Air Moldova's remaining A319 has, however, been stuck at Verona since March 2023, leaving it with no active aircraft.
The airline tried to cover it by wet-leasing aircraft but securing long-term contracts has proved to very difficult with capacity providers already being committed to other airlines in the upcoming busy summer season.
