Akasa Air orders more MAXs

India's newest low-cost carrier Akasa Air has given the MAX-programme a clear vote of confidence by placing a large order for the type. On 18 January 2024, the airline announced it has ordered 150 new B737s, which will be a mix of B737-8200s as well as B737-10s. The exact breakdown will depend on market conditions and the airline has the flexibility to swap between the two versions. Deliveries will run until 2032.

Akasa Air ordered 72 B737-8s and 8200s in November 2021, followed by an order for four more B737-8s in June 2023. With this latest order, the airline has now ordered a total of 226 MAXs.

Today, the fleet consists of 21 B737-8s and one B737-8200. The airline has its main bases at Bengalore and Mumbai and is currently flying domestic routes only. It's also planning to launch international flights later this year, with Doha and Riyadh being the first destinations.
