Alaska Air Group introduces new strategic plan
Earlier this year, the Alaska Air Group completed the acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines. As a result of that, on 10 December 2024, the Group announced a new strategic plan called "Alaska Accelerate".
One of the more interesting parts of the plan for the spotter is that the airline group is planning to establish Seattle-Tacoma (WA) as its new longhaul-hub. From there, the company will start flying in 2025 to Tokyo-Narita and Seoul-Incheon. By 2030, it plans to operate twelve non-stop longhaul destinations out of Seattle, including destinations in Europe.
The new flights to Tokyo and Seoul will be launched by Hawaiian Airlines and operated by the Airbus A330-200. Later, the Group will utilize its Boeing B787-9s to its international network. According to the CEO of the airline, (some of) these B787s will feature a new dedicated livery and Alaska Airlines-branding.
After the acquisition, Alaska Air announced it would continue to operate the two brands but would seek one Air Operator's Certificate to secure efficiencies and synergies.
Today, the longhaul fleet of Hawaiian Airlines is made-up of 24 A330-200s and two B787-9s. It has open orders for ten more B787-9s.
