ANA Holdings to acquire Nippon Cargo Airlines

On 7 March 2023, ANA Holdings announced it has reached an agreement with Nippon Yusen, the owner of Nippon Cargo Airlines, to acquire the airline from the shipping company. ANA hopes to have finalized the deal by 1 October 2023 and plans to integrate its current cargo operations into NCA.

Nippon Cargo Airlines was established on 21 September 1978 but it took until 1985 before the company launched operations. It was a joint-venture between All Nippon Airways and Nippon Yusen. In 2005, ANA sold its stake to Nippon Yusen.

NCA has over the years operated only with Boeing B747-freighters and today the fleet consists of eight B747-8Fs. The company also owns five B747-400Fs but these are operated by ASL Airlines and Atlas Air.

ANA Holdings consists of Air Do, All Nippon Airways, ANA Wings, and Peach. All Nippon Airways is currently operating a dedicated freighter-fleet made up of nine B767-300Fs and two B777Fs.
