ATR announces next generation of ATRs
The main shareholders of ATR Aircraft, Leonardo and Airbus, have given the greenlight for the development of the next generation of ATR42s and 72s. The manufacturer will now work closely with engine suppliers, system providers and airlines to launch the programme by 2023.
The ATR "EVO" should enter commercial operations by 2030 and will feature hybrid capabilities and other significant technological advancements, which will give the aircraft a signifant boost in performance, economics and sustainability. The new engines will able to run on 100% Sustainable Air Fuels (SAF), which means CO2-emissions could be close to zero. The "EVO" is also targeting a 20% reduction in fuel burn compared to todays ATR42/72s, as well as a reduction of 20% in maintenance costs.
