ATR cancels ATR42-600S STOL

On 13 November 2024, ATR announced it has decided to cancel the ATR42-600S STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) version. The type was formally launched in 2021 and took to the skies for the very first time on 11 May 2022 in the form of prototype F-WWLY (811). The manufacturer had expected certification in 2023 but the need for a design change moved these timelines with at least a year.

Now, after an extensive review of the "evolving market dynamics", ATR decided to focus "efforts on further boosting the competitiveness of its current product portfolio" and discontinue the ATR42-600S.

According to the manufacturer, 21 aircraft were ordered by various customers and they are in contact with them to offer alternatives or a cancellation of their orders.
