Attempt to rescue a Dart Herald

The British society UK Heritage Aviation Trust, is trying to secure the future of Handley Page Dart Herald G-CEXP (MSN 195).

The former airliner has its place somewhere forlorn at the perimeter of Gatwick Airport since 2003. But as the airport has expansion plans, it needs to be relocated at short notice.

Dismantling and moving the Dart Herald would cost an estimated GBP 60,000, almost a quarter of which has been collected at the end of July 2022. So, the UK Heritage Aviation Trust could use your financial support.

Time is limited though, and Herald G-CEXP needs to be out of Gatwick by the end of October 2022!

G-CEXP is one of only four complete Dart Heralds that have survived, and the only one that has not been restored yet.

The machine made its first flight in 1968, and was delivered to Arkia as 4X-AHO. It later served as G-BFRJ (Express Air Freight), I-ZERC (Soc. Columbia) and from 1987 until 1996 as G-CEXP (Channel Express).

From 1996 to 2003, ‘X-ray-Papa’ served as a part of the Sky View display on the roof of Gatwick's South Terminal.
