BA considers new Gatwick-subsidiary
British Airways is in consultation with unions and employees about establishing a new low(er) cost subsidiary that would operate short-haul flights out of London-Gatwick airport. It's currently unclear if this subsidiary would operate under the BA-brand (like BA CityFlyer at London-City) or would get a totally new one.
BA suspended all short-haul flights out of Gatwick last year in April due the pandemic. The airline is, however, of the opinion that market conditions has changed so much that operating short-haul profitable again out of the airport warrants a new approach in order to compete with the likes of easyJet.
If moving forward with the plan, British Airways hopes to have the new subsidiary up and running at the start of the 2022 summer season.
