BA drops new Gatwick-subsidiary plan
Last month, British Airways announced it was in consultations with employees and unions about establishing a new subsidiary at London-Gatwick in order to launch a post-pandemic profitable short-haul flight operation out of the airport.
The unions, however, are against the proposed plan, leading to BA scrapping it. This means that British Airways will not return with short-haul flying at Gatwick, except for a few domestic flights to feed the long-haul flights at the airport. The airline will now rethink how it can use the slots it has at London-Gatwick in another way.
BA has been struggling at Gatwick for years and wanted a new set-up in order to be able to compete with the likes of easyJet and other low-cost airlines flying out of the airport.
