Boeing delays B777X and scraps B767-300F
On 11 October 2024, Boeing announced it has posted another loss, this time over the third quarter of 2024. The manufacturer continues to struggle with many of its production lines. Currently, it faces difficulties in its B737MAX (the -7 and -10), the B777X (B777-8F and -9), T-7A, KC-46A, MQ-25, and VC-25B programmes.
Next to these challenges, Boeing is having supply chain issues and a strike from a large part of its Commercial Aircraft workforce that is already ongoing for over a month.
As a result of its losses, the new CEO of Boeing announced a large reorganization that will see it scrapping 10% of its global workforce, which is about 17,000 co-workers.
In the Commercial Aircraft side of the business, Boeing has announced that delivery of the B777-9 is now delayed to 2026, while the B777-8F is delayed until 2028. It will also cease the sales of the B767-300F. Once the current commercial orders are completed, Boeing will close-down production of the B767 in 2027. It will, however, continue to produce the KC-46A (the B767-2C). Currently, it has a backlog of twelve B767-300Fs for FedEx and seventeen for UPS.
