Bonza suspends operations
On 30 April 2024, Australian ultra low-cost carrier Bonza suspended all operations after its fleet was repossessed by leasing company AIP Capital. The lessor decided to take this decision after the airline had failed to pay the lease fees. In a statement, the airline said the suspension is temporarily and it's working on a way to resume flights.
Bonza had a fleet of four Boeing B737-8s. Two of these are parked at Melbourne, the other two at Sunshine Coast. The airline was established in 2021 and is backed by Miami-based investment firm 777 Partners. According to various news outlets, this investment company is also under scrutiny by regulators because of questions of its finances. It now seems that its troubles have boiled-over to Bonza. So far, the other airline backed by 777 Partners, Canadian carrier Flair Airlines, is operating as normal.
