Canadian North retires final B737-200

On 6 May 2023, Canadian North retired its final B737-200. The aircraft in question, 43-year old B737-200C C-GDPA (22056), operated its final flight between Yellowknife and Cambridge Bay and back.

Since 2001, Canadian North has operated sixteen different B737-200s, five of them combi's. Many of them were outfitted with a special gravel-kit, enabling the classic jets to operate from gravel airstrips, making it uniquely qualified to operate from remote airfrields in the North of Canada. However, with the B737-200 not becoming any younger and spare parts more difficult to acquire, it was time to retire the aircraft. As gravel-kits are not available for new versions of the B737, Canadian North will use ATR42/72s to serve these remote airfields.

Canadian North's fleet now consists of thirteen ATR42s, two ATR72s, ten B737-300s, four B737-400s, and four B737-700s.

Not all is lost for the lovers of the B737-200 in Canada, as Air Inuit still operates four, Chrono Aviation three, Nolinor five, and private operators two.
