China Airlines selects B787
On 30 August 2022, China Airlines has announced it has selected the Boeing 787-9 as the replacement for its ageing fleet of Airbus A330s. In total, the airline is planning to order sixteen Dreamliners. The intended order will also include eight options and the airline will also have the right to switch to the larger B787-10 if wanted or needed. The deal is set to be finalized once the board of the airline has given its final approval.
The selection comes after the airline ran a competition between Airbus (for the A330neo) and Boeing (B787) and said the cargo-carrying capabilities of the B787 was an important factor for selecting it. So far, no delivery timelines have been shared.
Today, China Airlines operates a fleet of 22 Airbus A330-300s, which are flown on regional flights within Asia.
