El Al plans B737 and B777-replacements
On 7 September, Israeli website aviationnews.co.il reported that El Al has started replacement plans for its Boeing B737 and B777-fleets. According to the article posted, the airline is set to order the B737-8 as a successor for its current B737s but that it's unclear what will replace the B777s, although the B787 seems very likely.
In other news, El Al is also looking into the possibility to add one or more B737-freighters. The airline needs dedicated cargo aircraft in order to keep its El Al Cargo-license up to date. Currently, the airline is wet-leasing cargo capacity.
El Al currently operates a fleet of sixteen B737-800s and eight B737-900ERs. It's B777-fleet consists of six B777-200ER, of which four are currently parked. Further, the airline flies three B787-8s and twelve B787-9s.
