Embraer further delays E175-E2 programme
Embraer has announced it has decided to further delay its E175-E2 programme. The manufacturer now plans to have the aircraft ready for entry into commercial operations in 2027 or 2028. Last May, Embraer announced it would delay the E175-E2 until at least 2024.
The E175-E2, so far, hasn't received any orders. The manufacturer betted heavily on new scope clauses in the US-market where the ERJ175 is a large success. However, talks on updating the scope clauses have been going nowhere over the last years. In these clauses the airlines and unions agree on the size, weight and number of passengers that can be flown by so-called production carriers like SkyWest and Envoy Airlines. This, to protect the job security of pilots at the mainline operations of the airlines.
Currently, the scope clauses limits the maximum number of passengers at Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines at 76. The E175-E2 can, however, thanks to its weight and capability increase, seat up to 90 passengers.
