Ernest Airlines is planning to relaunch itself as a regional carrier, flying to 70 destinations out of five Italian hubs
The plan is to use up to sixteen ATR72-600s out of Ancona, Bari, Bergamo, Parma and Rome-Fiumicino to underserved destinations. According to the CEO, the plan is to launch in December 2020 and the airline has the backing of the Italian government as they would create jobs and drive business and tourism.
Ernest Airlines previously operated a fleet of one A319 and three A320s and focused mainly on destinations in Albania and Ukraine. They were forced to cease all operations in January 2020 by the Italian civil aviation authority due to a lack of funds.
