ExpressJet ceases operations
On 23 August 2022, ExpressJet, operating as aha!, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and ceased all operations. It's the expectation that the airline is set to file for bankruptcy later and will not return to the skies. ExpressJet states that COVID-19, raising fuel costs and lack of suitable aircraft are to blaim for the demise of the company.
It's not the first time ExpressJet ceased operations as they also did so in late 2020 when United Airlines cancelled their regional flying contract with ExpressJet, forcing the airline to fire its 3,000 co-workers.
In September 2021, ExpressJet relaunched its flying operations with the launch of aha!, with flights starting a month later. In total, it operated eleven destinations with its fleet of three Embraer 145s, which have all been ferried to Marana (AZ) on 23 August 2022.
