Government of Egypt B747-8 fully painted

On 21 September, the new Boeing B747-8 for the Government of Egypt arrived at Hamburg after it received its livery at Shannon. The Jumbojet is registered SU-EGY (37826) and will receive some final cabin modifications before it will be delivered.

Originally, this Boeing was destined to go to Lufthansa as D-ABYE but was never taken up. It conducted its first flight on 26 April 2011 and used by Boeing for the B747-8 flight test programme. After Lufthansa decided to not to take-up the airframe, it went into storage at Marana (AZ) where it was parked between May 2015 and July 2017 as N828BA and owned by Boeing Capital. Between March and June 2018 it spend time at Lackland Air Force Base (TX), after which it was ferried to Victorville (CA). Here it remained until August 2021 when it was sold to Egypt.

In August 2021, it was ferried from Victorville (CA) to Everett-Paine Field (WA) for modifications and other maintenance before it was ferried to Hamburg in November of that year for cabin outfitting by Lufthansa Technik. Between 26 August 2022 and 21 September 2022, it was at Shannon to receive its new livery.
