Hong Kong Airlines announces large restructuring
Hong Kong Airlines has announced a large restructuring plan to its creditors in order to return to profitability and ensure long-term viability of the airline. As part of the reorganisation, the airline is planning to reduce its fleet from 34 aircraft now to just 20.
Today, the fleet consists of twelve Airbus A320s, nine A330-200s, five A330-200Fs, six A330-300s, and two A350-900s. Of this, Hong Airlines plans to retain the Airbus A320s, three A330-300s and all five A330-200Fs.
Hong Kong Airlines has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the strict policies put in place by the local government for travel. However, the airline was already struggling before the pandemic, impacted by the financial issues of mother company Hainan Airlines.
