Icelandair plots next phase of fleet-renewal

According to Flight Global, Icelandair is set to launch the next phase of its fleet renewal, issueing Request for Proposals to both Airbus and Boeing. In this RFPs, the airline is seeking aircraft it will order to replace its current fleet of Boeing B757s and B767s. Icelandair plans to take delivery of its first new aircraft of this order in 2024.

Today, Icelandair operates a fleet of seventeen B757-200s, two B757-200Fs, two B757-300s, three B767-300ERs, and one B767-300BCF. Of this, one of the three B767-300ERs is set to be converted into a freighter as well. On average, the Boeing B757-fleet is almost 26 years old, while the B767s are an average of 23 years old. Next to this, the airline is operating ten Boeing B737-8s and four B737-9s.
