IndiGo places record order with Airbus
On the first day of the Paris Air Show, Airbus announced it had received a record breaking order from Indian low-cost airline IndiGo. In total, the airline signed-up for 500 additional A320neo-family aircraft. According to the manufacturer, the order is the world's largest single order in the history of commercial aviation.
IndiGo has ordered its first order with Airbus in 2005 for 100 Airbus A320s. In 2011, it ordered another 180 A320-family aircraft, including its first A320neos. In 2014, 250 A320neo-family aircraft were ordered, and in 2019 another 300. With this latest order, the airline now has ordered a total of 1,330 A320(neo)-family aircraft, making it the world's largest customer for the type.
The current fleet of IndiGo is made up of 39 ATR72s, 21 A320s, 165 A320neos, two A321-200P2Fs, 87 A321neos, and one wet-leased B777-300ER.
The low-cost airline is also considering ordering wide body aircraft and is debating to go for either A330-900s or Boeing 787 Dreamliners, but still needs to decide on that.
