JetBlue cancels Spirit merger

On 4 March 2023, JetBlue announced that it had reached an agreement with Spirit Airlines to terminate the merger agreement of July 2022. Earlier, in January 2024, a federal judge blocked the merger.

While both companies still believe a merger would have been benificial, they also think they aren't able to conduct an appeal and meet other regulatory requirements before the 24 July 2024 deadline that is part of the original merger agreement.

JetBlue will pay Spirit Airlines 69 million USD and the termination will resolve all outstanding matters of both companies, which will now go their own way again.
