MIAT Mongolian Airlines will soon start its first cargo operations with its first dedicated freighter aircraft, the Boeing 757-200 Freighter.
That Boeing 757 (MSN 25397) started life as a passenger aircraft with United Airlines in 1992, as N549UA. In 2015 it was phased out by United and converted to freighter. It flew for TNT Airways and ASL Airlines Belgium as OO-TFC, before it was withdrawn from use in March 2022.
It was subsequently parked at Budapest and Lleida-Alguaire (Spain) and registered in the Guernsey register as 2-TFCA, with owner Aquila Air Capital, before it was ferried to Mongolia’s Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport (the airport serving Ulaanbaatar) on 23 July. It will be registered as JU-1109.
The 757-200 Freighter will be an addition to MIATs all-Boeing fleet which currently consists of three Boeing 737-800s, one Boeing 737MAX8 and one Boeing 767-300ER. MIAT has an order for one Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
MIAT Mongolian is the second airline which started operating the 757-200 Freighter for the first time in 2022, joining Amerijet. Longtail Aviation is also looking to start operations with the 757 Freighter later this year.
