New national carrier of Ghana close to launch
The launch of a new national carrier in Ghana is coming closer now that the government has officially selected the preferred partner for establishing and operating the company. According to AviationGhana, Ashanti Airlines is the winner of the tender.
Ashanti Airlines itself is also a start-up company, which is in the final process of obtaining its Air Operator's Certificate. It is owned by the Despite Group, Ghana's largest private business conglomerate, consisting of companies in food, finance and media.
It's expected that the new national carrier will operate the three Boeing B787-9s the government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for with Boeing during the Dubai Air Show in 2019. If the new carrier will be branded as Ashanti or as something else is also not known as this stage.
