Norwegian acquires Widerøe

On 5 July 2023, Norwegian announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Widerøe. The deal is worth 1,125 million NOK and is expected to close later this year. It's subject to findings of the Norwegian Competition Authorities and a few other things. According to the press-release, Norwegian and Widerøe will continue to operate as separate brands.

Widerøe was founded in 1934, and is currently operating a fleet of 23 DHC-8-100s, three DHC-8-200s, four DHC-8-300s, and seventeen DHC-8-400s. It also has three Embraer E190-E2s in the fleet.

Norwegian was launched 30 years ago, in 1993. It has a fleet of 68 Boeing B737-800s, as well as thirteen B737-8s.
