Red Air MD-82 veers of runway at Miami

On 21 June 2022, Red Air MD-82 HI1064 (53027) veered off the runway at Miami (FL) and caught fire. The aircraft was operating flight L5-203 from Santo Domingo and had its nose gear collapse while landing on runway 09, resulting in the 32-year old plane to skid of the runway. During the runway excursion, the MD-82 collided with several objects next to the runway, igniting a fire on the right-hand side.

Fire and rescue crews were on the scene very quickly and were able to douse the flames. Of all 126 people onboard three have, reportedly, sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Red Air, which was founded in 2020, now has a remaining fleet of one MD-81 and two MD-82s.
