Russia restarts production of Tu-214
On 6 April, the CEO of the United Aircraft Corporation has announced the company is restarting production on the Tupolev Tu-214 and that the manufacturer plans to build twenty new aircraft in the coming two years. The decision has been made to offset the impact of the Western-sanctions on the Russian aviation sector. It's unclear at this stage to which operators the new Tupolev's will go to. UAC also said it is considering restarting and increasing production of the Il-76 and -96.
The Tupolev Tu-214 is a version of the Tu-204 and flew for the first time on 21 March 1996. It's basically a higher gross weight variant of the Tu-204-100 with additional fuel tanks and structural improvements to carry the extra weight. The Tu-214 is produced at UAC's location in Kazan. So far, 34 Tu-214s have been produced. The majority of these are in use with various services of the Russian armed forces.
