SAS to reduce fleet

SAS Scandinavian Airlines is currently undergoing an extensive restructuring in order to survive. As part of this transformation the airline is planning to reduce the fleet with at least ten aircraft. According to a court filing, SAS is set to say goodbye to three Airbus A330-300s, two A350-900s, three A320neos, one A321 and one B737. The court has approved the airline to terminate the leases of the aircraft involved.

Reportedly, the Airbus A330-300s involved are LN-RKS (1665), LN-RKT (1697) and LN-RKU (1715), which are some of the youngest A330s in the fleet with an average age of seven years. The two A350-900s are said to be SE-RSB (378) and SE-RSC (391), which are both almost three years old. Once left, SAS would have five A330-300s and four A350-900s remaining.

The narrowbody aircraft involved are Airbus A320neos EI-SIF (8109), SE-ROC (7723), SE-ROD (7755), A321 OY-KBL (1619), and Boeing B737-700 SE-RET (32734). When returned, the airline will operate 33 A320neos, five A321s and six B737-700s.

Next to these, SAS also operates six ATR72-600s (wet-leased from Xfly), four Airbus A319s, eleven A320s, four B737-800s, twenty CRJ-900s (wet-leased from CityJet and Xfly) and three Embraer ERJ195s.
