Southwest Airlines ups B737MAX-order
Southwest Airlines has announced in its annual earning release that it has decided to firm options on the B737MAX into firm orders, as well as convert a few aircraft already on order. In total, the airline has firmed options for ten B737-7s and decided to convert four orders for B737-7s into B737-8s. The four B737-8s are due later this year, while the ten additional B737-7s are scheduled for delivery in 2024.
In total, the airline has now ordered 192 B737-7s, and 235 B737-8s. It also has 137 options left. Currently, Southwest is operating a fleet of 149 B737-8s. This year, it expects to welcome well over 100 new MAXs, including the first -7s which is expected to be certified later this year.
Next to the MAXs, Southwest flies with 430 B737-700s and 207 B737-800s.
