Start-up Global Airlines acquires A380
On 29 May 2023, UK start-up Global Airlines announced it has acquired its first aircraft, which is, surprisingly, an Airbus A380. The aircraft has been bought directly from lessor Doric and is reportedly to be former HiFly 9H-MIP (006), which has been stored at Tarbes-Lourdes since 16 March 2021. According to the airline's press-release the airline is in talks to secure three more A380s in the coming months.
Global Airlines, which is launched by the owner of Holiday Swap, is planning to fly its aircraft mainly between the UK and the US. The plans are to launch flights between London-Gatwick and Los Angeles (CA) and New York (NY) by Spring 2024. In the coming months it will reconfigure the A380 so that it can "provide our customers with the best experience in the sky today". Global Airlines wants to "transport passengers back to the ‘Golden Age of Air Travel’ with its unrivalled spaciousness and reinvigorated flying experience in every cabin".
Both Doric and Global Airlines didn't disclose how much was paid for the almost seventeen years old A380. According to Planespotters.net, Global Airlines is planning to configure the aircraft with twelve seats in First Class, 60 in Business, and 399 in Economy.
