Super Constellation project up for sale (again)
On 5 April 2023 our friends of CH Aviation revealed that the current owners of Lockheed Super Constellation HB-RSC ‘Star of Switzerland’ (msn 4175) have decided to sell their treasure. The owners, a group of German investors, DIAG Aviation GmbH, acquired the iconic propliner three years ago from its previous owner, the Swiss ‘Super Constellation Flyers Association’.
After the Super Connie was grounded in 2016, the SCFA tried to raise money for the necessary repairs, but unfortunately failed to do so. The German investors envisaged a full restoration to flying status and for this purpose the ‘Star of Switzerland’ was carefully dismantled and trucked to Bremgarten (Germany) As far as Scramble is aware there have been little (if any) restoration activities since Connie’s arrival there.
Obviously the DIAG Aviation group has now taken the decision to pull the plug from the project. This is very sad news, because, unless a miracle happens, the days of seeing a Super Constellation flying in Europe are over!
A nice documentary on the previous restoration attempt can be seen here (spoken in German)
