The perfect stay if you love aviation!
Aerotel is a South African-based boutique hotel at Hoedspruit, Limpopo, where you can enjoy luxury in a refurbished Boeing 737-200 (ZS-BIL, msn 22650). It is an idea and brainchild of Martin den Dunnen and wife Tracy den Dunnen, both of whom have a lot of passion for aviation.
The Classic Boeing (featuring twelve beds in six rooms) was moved to that location back in May 2019 and has seen many guests enjoying a one of a kind experience found on the whole African continent.
BIL was joined by another Boeing recently, Boeing 727 J2-KBA (msn 19394, ex Government of Djibouti and stored at Johannesburg for almost seven years) when it made a five-day journey from Jo'burg on 7 June to its final location at Hoedspruit, arriving on 11 June.
There it will be refurbished into an eighteen bed VIP suite, making it perfect for large families or group getaways. Because the 727 is already in a VIP configuration (it used to fly government officials), not a lot will need to be changed internally.
The journey attracted a lot of attention, making stops in Polokwane, Mokopane, Marble Hall, Modjadjiskloof and most recently Gravelotte. The hotel encouraged people to take pictures and videos of it, a few of them you can see here.
If you ever happen to find yourself in the vicinity of Hoedspruit and you have some money to spare, it would certainly be a highlight of your trip!
