Virgin Australia has announced it has selected the Embraer E190-E2 as part of its Virgin Australia Regional fleet renewal programme. During a ceremony in Perth on 13 August 2024, the company said it has placed a firm order for eight aircraft.

The jets will be based at Perth and are ordered to replace its remaining three Fokker 100s in the fleet. In total, the airline has flown with fourteen Fokker 100s since 2013.

Next to its Fokkers, Virgin Australia Regional also operates seven Airbus A320s.
