Viva Air suspends all operations
Grupo Viva, consisting of Viva Air Colombia and Viva Air Peru announced on 27 February 2023 that it has been forced to suspend all operations due to lack of financial means.
The airline has been struggling for a while and was in the process of being acquired by Avianca. The deal with Avianca was, however, delayed as the Colombian anti-trust authority couldn't make a decision yet on the merits of the take-over. Recently, investment company Indigo Partners, known for its investments in airlines like Frontier Airlines and WizzAir also expressed interest in the carrier but no deal was reached.
The airline will now work with its creditors and potential interested parties in how future operations could be restarted. Until then, the fleet of six A320s and ten A320neos will remain on the ground.
