WestJet orders more MAXs
On 29 September, the WestJet Group announced it has received board approval to order additional Boeing B737MAXs. In total, the airline is set to order 42 B737-10s with options on another 22 MAXs. In total, the Canadian airline now has 65 MAXs on firm order which will be used to fuel the airline's fleet renewal and expansion until 2028.
The new MAXs can be placed within all airlines in the WestJet Group, including newly acquired Sunwing when that deal receives final approval from the authorities.
The WestJet Group consists of WestJet, which operates 42 B737-700s, 40 B737-800s, eighteen B737-8s and seven B787-9. It also features WestJet Encore, operating 47 DHC-8-400s, WestJet Link, operating four Saab 340s and Swoop, which flies with ten B737-800s and three B737-8s. Sunwing flies eleven B737-800s and six B737-8s and is planned to join the WestJet Group but continue to operate under its own brand.
