Wizz Air to establish subsidiary in Malta

Wizz Air has announced that it is establishing a new subsidiary in Malta, called Wizz Air Malta. On 17 May 2022, the airline signed the necessary documents in order to obtain its Maltese Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Operating License (OL). Wizz Air Malta hopes to launch flights in October 2022.

It is currently unclear how many aircraft will be registered in Malta. Today, Wizz Air is flying to and from Malta to Belgrade, Bucharest, Budapest, Cluj, Katowice, Skopje, Sofia, Vienna and Warsaw. It's also not clear if the airline is set to expand its operations out of the island to more destinations.

Once established, Wizz Air Malta will be the airline's third subsidiary after Wizz Air UK and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi (a joint-venture with Etihad Airways). In total all Wizz Air-airlines operate a fleet of 56 A320s, 6 A320neos, 41 A321s and 50 A321neos. It also operates a single A330-200F for the Hungarian government.
