While hundreds of people were gathered at Boeing Field Sunday afternoon for the landing of the first Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental, a smaller airplane on the opposite side of the runway slammed into some ground equipment and a fence.
The Convair 580 cargo plane made a loud noise heard across the runway as its propellers hit the equipment and may have damaged another airplane.
A puff of white smoke was seen during the accident, likely from a engine.
Pieces of metal littered the flight-line immediately around the airplane and its nose cone was knocked off by the force of the impact.
The front of the plane was tangled in a white tent after the accident.
There did not appear to be any injuries from the crash, which did not interfere with the landing and ceremony surrounding the 747-8.
