The oneworld alliance has elected Malaysia Airlines to become a oneworld member designate at the IATA 2011 World Air Transport Summit held in Singapore. A full membership agreement will follow soon and will take effect in late 2012.
I always thought MH would join Skyteam soon, but other sources indicated AF have blocked MH membership for quite some time now, so maybe this influenced their decision. I wonder what will happen to the KLM codeshare and their plans to deploy the A380 on KUL-AMS. In my opinion the KLM codeshare will be terminated once MH becomes a full oneworld member, and the A380 will most likely be too much for the AMS-KUL route (probably switching back to B772).
