Re: Gatwick was completely closed due to Virgin A330 inciden

For the second time in four days, Gatwick had to shut for arrivals &
departures due to unfortunate circumstances. This time it was the
unwanted return of A333 VIR27/*G-VSXY* (1195), which had earlier
departed at around 11.50 for Orlando with 13 crew & 299 passengers. At
approximately 12.15, while over the English Channel, it declared a full
emergency, landing back at Gatwick around 15 minutes later. The aircraft
remained on runway 08R while the passengers were evacuated & then the
cargo removed. The reason for the emergency has been reported as a
suspected fire in the cargo hold. All arrivals & departures were halted
until some time after 14.00 when the emergency runway (08L) was made
available for departures. 08R seems to have reopened a short while
later. Apparently, no trace of fire or smoke was found by the emergency
services. Note ? all times above are approximate.
