(Over)crowded airshow weekend 20-21 June 2009

Post by aviodromefriend »

As can be seen at different spots at the whiskeywhiskeywhiskey, in the weekend of June 20 and 21 there will be a lot of airshows going on in Europe, even along the spotterscommunity emotions are running quite high about this.

Volkel, Zeltweg, Kemble, Ursel, Le Bourget and even some other shows plan to be taken place at this weekend, forcing the community to make a choise which event to visit.

About this issue, I will quote from an email in Dutch I received from one of the high-ranked people from RNLAF BAD, about this problem. Maybe some can have some help from this while taking the decission what they want to do that weekend. Note: there should have been an Armée de l'Air event to, at this same weekend....
Short translation: BAD knew it is the same weekend as Le Bourget.
Until two weeks ago the austrians repeatedly told Zeltweg would not take place, Now they are ordered from a higher level. They now say it is going to be a minor event, with only one demoteam, nobody is happy with this.
Ursel asked BAD permission to have their fly-in at the same weekend.
BAD is seeing it as a challenge to share the same weekend with Kemble.

Nothing new here, third weekend of June has always been the most crowded one on the annual airshow calendar. But half of them will be cancelled anyway...

Zeltweg has now been moved to the next weekend, according http://www.kleinezeitung.at/steiermark/ ... 4/index.do. credits Crisse at the Zeltweg topic, so the choice will be a bit less difficult by now.
