Fatal fire destroys Kolavia Tu-154 at Surgut
By David Kaminski-Morrow
One person has been killed and several others injured in a ground accident involving a Russian-operated Tupolev Tu-154B in Surgut.
The aircraft, operated by Surgut-based Kolavia, caught fire at 13:12 local time, says the Russian federal transport supervisor Rostransnadzor.
In a statement it says that there has been one fatality, while another 10 people have been taken to hospital.
Images from the scene show the aircraft has been substantially damaged. The data on the empennage indicates that the airframe is a 27-year old example registered RA-85588.
The authority says that the aircraft, which was scheduled to operate from Surgut to Moscow Domodedovo, "ignited" on the ground.
Rostransnadzor adds that the fire was contained by 13:45. It has not indicated the source or the circumstances of the fire.
On board the aircraft were 116 passengers and eight crew members, it says. Investigation into the accident is underway.
