Aeropostal Heavy Landing

Post by flying_kiwi »

Apparently an Aeropostal DC-9 (YV136T) made a heavy landing in Puerto Ordaz (Venezuela) after a flight from Caracas.
The forces involved were apparently enough to break the number 2 engine loose from its pylon!!! Put a few crinkles in the fuselage too!

I suppose it is better that the whole tail section breaking off as in the infamous MD80 flight test.

It appears that the landing was very very heavy.
Otherwise I can not explane the damage seen on photo's.

Plane is written off ?
Seems to me the only possible - and normal solution.

Any idea why the landing was so heavy ?
