A British Airways Boeing 737-400, registration G-DOCL performing flight BA-2689 from Genoa (Italy) to London Gatwick,EN (UK) with 126 passengers, was in the initial climb out of Genoa
when the aircraft flew through a flock of gulls and ingested a number of birds into both engines (CFM56).

The crew shut down one engine in flight, returned to Genoa for a safe landing about 20 minutes after departure and shut the other vibrating engine down immediately after landing.

The flight was cancelled.
