VIDEO: Centurion Cargo faces suspension in Brazil after landing incident

Brazil’s civil aviation authority has warned it could suspend Miami-based cargo carrier Centurion Cargo following a 13 October landing incident in which the airline’s Boeing MD-11 freighter’s left landing gear collapsed.
The incident at Viracopos-Campinas International Airport, one of three major airports serving Sao Paulo,
led to the runway being closed until 17:35 yesterday.
The aircraft was removed from the runway at 16:20, says Brazil’s civil aviation authority ANAC.
It adds that it will take “appropriate measures” against Centurion,
which could include fines, restrictions on operations and even a suspension of the airline in Brazil.
Reports said the MD-11, registration N988AR,
was operating from Miami to Sao Paulo and had landed on its left engine and wing-tip after its left landing gear collapsed.
No one was injured in the incident but the aircraft was reportedly substantially damaged.
Centurion could not be reached for comment.
The privately-owned cargo carrier, based at Miami International Airport, operates three other MD-11Fs, Flightglobal’s Ascend Online database shows.
The MD-11F involved in the landing incident was built in 1991 and is owned by lessor AerCap. It had accumulated more than 69,000 hours.
