Flybe. plans Manchester-Norwich-Den Helder link

Post by ErwinS »

Flybe. (BE, Exeter International (EXT)) has published plans to extend one of its three daily services between Manchester Ringway International (MAN) and Norwich (NWI) onward to Den Helder De Kooy (DHR) in the Netherlands from April 2, 2013. The service to be operated by its partner Suckling Airways (CB, Cambridge (CBG)) with Do328-100s will be the first scheduled service for the airport that like Norwich is important for the offshore oil and gas industry.

See before believing. I can't imagine much interest in a service from Manchester to Den Helder vv, and the last time it was tried Den Helder-Norwich has been terminated very quickly due to a lack of interest with an even smaller aircraft.

Let's face it, one service a day means to stay at least one night in the other country (and at Den Helder most accomodations have been contracted for long terms to their capacity by some long term clients). Not even thinking about the logistical nightmare of having passengers from non-Schengen to non-Schengen (both non-Schengens being in the same country) and Schengen in the same aircraft.

There are more schedules with such immigration problems.
The cheapest solution is to get the pax out at the intermediate stop,
another option is to to have a UK immigration officer at Den Helder.
Have been though both systems.

Which has been in use for years already, although you could also hear HDR on the freq.

P.S. This timetable doesn't improve confidence in a long lasting service, as both legs will be flown during normal office-hours. Go get these birds before it is over again.

Final flight will be tomorrow, March 15. Up till now, flights were carried out carrying between 2 and 6 passengers, and the airline now pulls the plug. The board of the airport is not amused, and wants to open negotiations for a service Aberdeen-Den Helder.
