On behalf of Iraqi Ministry of Transportation, Iraqi Airways (IA), the national carrier of Iraq, have taken delivery of their 1st A330-200, becoming a new operator for the type. This will be the 1st Airbus widebody aircraft to be operated by IA. The aircraft will be deployed on european routes including Germany, Austria and the UK. The carrier already operates 2 A321. (Airbus Newsletter & AirTransportNews & AviTrader, December04th 2012).
Iraqi AW has also received its first (and for the moment probably only) B777 this week. B777-200LR YI-AQZ (c/n 40993) originally destined for Air Austral was flown to Baghdad. For the moment still all white and I wonder how they are going to use this plane. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being used as a government plane.
